Grupi ATA is a self organized, activist art collective from Kamza, Albania, consisting of artists and jurists. In their stigmatized municipality on the outskirts of Tirana, there is neither a cinema nor a theatre, a radio station nor a newspaper. They aim to draw attention to the public space through actions in the surrounding area and thus establish it. This is achieved, for instance with the help of Augusto Boal's theatrical pedagogical mind. They question the patriarchical Albanian customary law called the Kanun. Still, they also try to seek and reinterpret certain aspects that might reveal their contemporary relevance related to questions of public spaces, the commons and building collaborative and democratic descision-making processes. Grupi-ATA moves between art, anthropology, journalism and jurisprudence. The legal experts of the group offer their help to people who cannot afford juridical support. They have created their community centre, which offers access to their library, a projection space, a radio, a legal centre, and they permanently organize different workshops and laboratories related to the abovementioned disciplines and strictly linked with the local community of Kamza.
*The lecture and workshop will be held in English.
