„Plenty of creatures are intelligent, but only one tells stories. That's us: Pan narrans. And what about Homo sapiens? Yes, we think that would be a very good idea…“ (Terry Pratchett, „The Science of Discworld II: The Globe“)
How fictional is reality?
This surrealistic research project is an open exploration of Walter R. Fisher’s „Homo Narrans“ – the notion that humans are the only animals who communicate and understand the world through narrative. A fragmented text performed by an unknown entity is accompanied by an associative collage of found imagery, symbolism and references that extends from the projection screen into the room: an ephemeral, growing and changing assemblage of found and made things inhabit the space. The ostentatious Aula, built in the early 20th century specifically to house the narrative-laden tapestry, functions as an interesting juxtaposition, but also intertwines and merges, visually and conceptually, with the thoughts and findings on display.
