Richard Frater (b. 1984) is an Aotearoa-born artist living and working in Berlin.

In his practice, he often begins with the fragility and complexity of life processes – creating artworks that bring visibility to the interactions between organisms and the material world. His works frequently reveal the disruptions and interruptions that humanity and the built environment have brought to these processes.

His solo exhibition Off season is currently open to the public at the Kunstverein München, 2023.

Other selected exhibitions include: At Thresholds, City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, 2022; Im Volksgarten, Kunsthaus Glarus, 2020; A Fatal Attraction, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin, 2019; Compound, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, 2017; Farewell Photography, Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie, Mannheim, 2017 and Produktion. Made in Germany Drei, Kunstverein Hannover, 2017.
