Sound and Experiment (Bayerisches Spitzenprofessurenprogramm)
Sound and Experiment takes the audible as a point of departure: between acoustic and cross-modal phenomena, their analysis and synthesis, scientific and non-academic tendencies in digital music, experimental practices, and their distribution models.
Central to this is a critical evaluation and work with sonic materials, their histories, resonances with other fields of knowledge, developments of specific concepts and tools used, software environments and instruments, with a focus on realisation off the beaten track. Sound and Experiment also concentrates on the approaches and actions of various actors in the extended sonic field, their artefacts, writings and philosophies.
Sound and Experiment understands the sonic as both abstract and concrete, an experience often informed by algorithmic and formal processes, which can manifest itself as rich and sensual, often defying linguistic description.Technological and aesthetic developments, some of which have a common history, can be heard, felt and observed through sound.
Sound and Experiment deals with matter and medium that is constantly in flux and permanently in the making, testing the material and immaterial coordinates of how sensation and space are defined, experienced and realised.
Sound and Experiment is a cross-class platform, a direct application is currently not possible. Students enrolled at the AdBK who are interested in the programme are asked to contact Prof. Florian Hecker directly.
