Leo Heinik’s artistic practice involves sculpture, drawing, collage and publication. At times it extends into modes of education, curation and organisation. After his studies in Art Education in the class of Stephan Dillemuth at AdBK Munich, Leo Heinik was the artistic director of Fahrender Raum (2020 – 2021), a project space that is primarily aimed at children and youths. Since 2017 he works with Maria VMier and Jan Erbelding as Ruine München, an artists’ collective which emerged from the eponymous off-space. In 2021 they were awarded the Prize for Galleries and Off-Spaces for their joint work. Since 2021 Leo Heinik is the artistic assistant in the class of Nicole Wermers.

His artistic interest is centred around the interactions between artworks, their modes of presentation and their recipients. His sculptures often incorporate interfaces that allow them to be compatible with infrastructural contact points such as sockets, lamp holders or projector mounts. Other works aim to open up the boundaries of dominant visual exhibition cultures towards tactile comprehensibility by incorporating actual or implied functionalities or by appealing to the visitors’ desire to touch the objects.

Leo Heinik’s works have been shown at Lenbachhaus, FLORIDA Lothringer 13 and the Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism (Munich), Burg Galerie im Volkspark (Halle), Golden Pudel Club (Hamburg), Circuits & Currents (Athens) as well as Federation House (Manchester), among others.
