As part of the Erasmus program, AdBK Munich offers you the opportunity to study abroad at one of our partner universities. In addition to the exchange opportunity, an Erasmus stay also comes with a scholarship.
Next to the partner universities in the Erasmus program, you can also study at universities in Israel, Japan, Brazil and South Africa as part of our own Global Exchange program. These stays are not associated with a scholarship. Please research financing options and/or scholarships yourself under the heading Further exchange and funding possibilities.
You can find an overview of all partner universities for Erasmus and Global Exchange stays here.
Please note: For exchange possibilities in the field of Art Education please select "Fine Arts" in the search portal.
Everything else you need to know for planning, researching and applying for a stay abroad can be found in the following bullets.
Presentation Info Event 11/2024
- Enrolment at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich
- Existing contract between the AdBK Munich and the desired partner university abroad
- You have not yet received 24 months of Erasmus funding (only valid for Erasmus-funded stays)
- Your main place of residence is not in the destination country (only valid for Erasmus-funded stays)
When can I go abroad?
Fine Arts: After successfully passing the so called "Probezeitprüfung", usually from the 3rd semester onwards.
Art Education: After the "Probewand" and before the "Kleine Wand". Please bear in mind that you will also need preparation time at the Academy (1-2 semesters) to be able to take the "Kleine Wand" exam.
Interior Architecture (BA): From the 5th semester onwards.
Master's programmes: Please plan one year or at least one semester of preparation time for your semester abroad, so that you can go abroad in the 2nd semester of your Master's programme at the earliest.
Do I have to do a language course?
The language proficiency requirements of the partner universities vary greatly and range from an official certificate proving C1 level to the informal statement "English is sufficient". In the Responsive Portal you will find detailed information on expectations for many partner universities. If no information is available there, you will usually find detailed information on the website of the respective partner university.
We generally recommend that you have at least basic skills in the language of the destination country for your stay abroad.
Which partner university is suitable for me?
It is advisable to contact the programme coordinators or your class professor at an early stage in order to receive recommendations, guidance and advice on suitable partner universities from a teaching perspective.
You can find the coordinators of the degree programmes here:
Fine Arts: Prof. Schirin Kretschmann
Art Education: Prof. Nils Norman
Interior Design: Prof. Katja Knaus
Architecture (MA): Prof. Bernardo Bader
Of course, you can also contact the International Office at any time for general advice. Think about your own objectives and any applicable framework conditions. For example: Is it possible and does it makes sense to take a leave of absence for one semester or do I want/need to have all the credits earned abroad fully recognised for my studies at the AdBK? Do I want to go to this partner university to study with a particular professor? How much time will I really have for an exchange with this person? Do I want to experience a completely different study system or as much compatibility and progression as possible? How quickly can I integrate into a semester? Would I rather look for a partner university in a large city in order to find a wide range of (independent) activities or a small university with campus life and a city where I can quickly orientate myself?
A rule of thumb is: the larger the partner university, the more general activities/service centres, language courses and integration offers you will generally receive; the smaller the city, the cheaper the accommodation.
Application Deadline

Until February 24th 2025 all applications must be submitted via the link below in the online application portal on our website and documents must be completely uploaded. In order to apply, you must provide and use your university email address.
Attention! Once you have completed the application form, you must log in to the portal (Mobility Online) and upload the documents (passport photo etc.). Otherwise your application will not be considered complete and cannot be considered.
Required application documents
- Online application form for academic year 2025/26 > Deadline: 24.02.2025, 12.00 a.m.
- Passport sized photo
- Certificate of enrolment
- CV
Application procedure
1. Find out about the exact semester times and the language of instruction at the partner university.
2. Register in the online portal and complete the online form. A direct application to the partner university is not possible.
3. After the application deadline, the International Office will make a selection based on the following criteria:
- Existing exchange places
- Previous participation in the Erasmus programme
- If applicable, semester level (if there are more applicants than places, higher semesters will be given preference. However, a low semester is not a basic criterion for exclusion!)
4. You will be informed by the International Office whether you have been offered a place. The International Office will then nominate you at the partner university.
5. Once you have been nominated, the next step is to send your application documents to the partner university. Please inform yourself in advance about the application deadline and the required application documents (e.g. portfolio, letter of motivation etc). If a so-called Learning Agreement is already required for the application, please contact us at
6. Notify the International Office of your acceptance.
7. Once you have been accepted, you must register with KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe to receive your scholarship. For more information, see "Scholarships". Please note that you have to register with KOOR 4 weeks before your stay abroad at the latest!
Since 2018, the financial management of the scholarship has been handled by our consortium partner KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. For the further procedure you therefore have to register in the KOOR-Erasmus Services Mobility Online Portal.
The individual scholarships depend on the country of the partner university and are granted and paid by KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. The minimum duration of stay and sponsorship is two months. The amount of the current monthly sponsorship sum can be found here.
Please note that KOOR-Erasmus Services must receive your complete documents one month before the start of the study visit at the latest! Retroactive funding is not possible!
Please start several weeks in advance as you will have to obtain various signatures from the host and home university. KOOR-Erasmus Services will process your application successively after receipt of the application documents or after their completeness. In order to ensure equal treatment of all scholarship holders, KOOR-Erasmus Services will apply this procedure in all steps (issue of the Grant Agreement, instruction of the first instalment, processing of the final documents and payment of the second instalment).
You can find detailed tutorials on registration and the required application documents on KOOR's Youtube channel (videos in German only). For questions regarding your registration with KOOR and your scholarship, KOOR offers an online consultation every Tuesday from 11:00 - 12:00 am. You can find the link here.
Please also note: Simultaneous receipt of an Erasmus scholarship and another EU scholarship or a DAAD scholarship is not permitted.
If your application has been accepted by the partner university, you will receive a request from the AdBK's Mobility Online Tool to register in KOOR's Mobility Online. You apply for ERASMUS+ funding via KOOR. A mandatory requirement for this is that you also create a so-called Learning Agreement. The Learning Agreement will be provided automatically when you register in KOOR Mobility Online.
Please state the contact details of the International Office in the Learning Agreement: Rebekka Sigl,
Please note: Learning Agreements (LA) must be created digitally via Mobility Online KOOR. Please do not use the OLA platform.
What is a Learning Agreement (LA)?
An LA is primarily for your protection and your study planning. It specifies which courses you wish to take abroad will be credited towards your degree programme at the AdBK. Basically, crediting means that a partial achievement that you have to take in order to complete your degree programme is entered as "passed" in your study plan.
If you take a leave of absence (Beurlaubung) for your Erasmus stay, no credits can be recognised. Nevertheless, you must always draw up a Learning Agreement. You proceed as if you were not on leave of absence.
What is included in the Learning Agreement?
1.) Fine Arts
For every stay abroad (except for semesters abroad on leave of absence), the partial achievement Work in Class - A-KL (1-9) is automatically recognised according to the decision of the Examination Board, regardless of whether or not you have completed comparable work abroad.
Option a.)
For further partial achievements that you would like to have recognised (e.g. FK-W3, FK-T4 or similar), you must contact the relevant workshop leaders (m/f/d) or professors (m/f/d) and ask for their consent to recognition (by email is sufficient) and forward the written consent to the International Office
Example:
Option a.) You would like to have the credits recognised for your studies at the AdBK, then fill in Table B with courses / seminars / partial credits as you can find them in the AdBK course catalogue or in the study and examination plan of Fine Arts as follows (please note that this is only an example!), and clarify in advance with the lecturers whether they accept your credit requirements.
Option b.)
If you do not wish to receive credit, select the courses at the host university and name the same courses at the sending university. However, you put the abbreviation "FU" for optional classes in front of all courses. FU stands for classes that you attend but which are not relevant to your degree.
Example:
If you do not wish to be credited, please fill in table B as follows:
2. Kunstpädagogik / Art Education
Option a.)
Recognition of relevant partial credits: In principle, you proceed in exactly the same way as Fine Arts students (please see above), except of course that you enter the relevant partial credit number (see course catalogue/curriculum) and the corresponding ECTS credits.
Example:
Option a.) You would like to have the credits recognised for your studies at the AdBK, then fill in Table B with courses / seminars / partial credits as you can find them in the AdBK course catalogue or in the study and examination plan of the Fine Arts as follows (please note that this is only an example!), and clarify in advance with the lecturers whether you accept your credit requirements.
Option b.)
If you do not want credit, it is the same procedure as for the Free Art Option b. ) Fine Art.
3.) Interior Architecture
The procedure for the Learning Agreement and the credit procedure for the Bachelor and Master of Interior Design can be found in this document.
4.) Art & Architecture
In principle, please proceed with options a.) and b.) as in Art Education or after consultation with your degree programme.
Here you will find the technical instructions for the preparation of the digital learning agreements: Anleitung zur Erstellung der digitalen Learning Agreements.
Please note: The Learning Agreement can be rejected by both the home university and the host university. In this case, the Learning Agreement will be reset and you will receive an infomail. The courses can then be re-edited and the LA will be sent back to the home and host university for signature.
During the Mobility – Amendment of the Learning Agreement
Course changes can be entered here after the start of the semester abroad, e.g. because events do not take place. You can also add or drop courses. In the table, specify the reason for the changes. Course changes must again be digitally signed by AdBK Munich and the partner university. To do this, change the Learning Agreement at KOOR and send it back to AdBK.
If you have any further questions about the Digital Learning Agreement, please send an email to
During the semester abroad, students can take a leave of absence at the AdBK. In this case, however, it is not possible to receive credit for the courses attended abroad. Even in the case of a leave of absence, re-registration for each semester is necessary. If you would like to take leave of absence or have questions regarding that please contact the Student Office:
In order to have your academic archievements abroad recognized, please have the Learning Agreement signed by all parties and then submit it to the examination office (Prüfungsamt) responsible for you.

There is no insurance cover associated with an ERASMUS+ mobility grant. If you are funded by ERASMUS+, you are obliged to have health insurance, international health insurance, accident insurance as well as liability insurance with certain features - among others, the international health insurance must also cover pandemic cases. Please contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Alternatively, it is possible to take out group insurance at a reduced rate, e.g. through the DAAD.
In many cases, it is possible to attend introductory weeks for international students or language courses at the host university even before you begin your studies abroad. Therefore, enquire at the host university early on about special offers for international students that facilitate orientation at the beginning of your studies abroad.
In individual cases, it is possible to extend your stay abroad by another semester. Please contact us early (i.e. at least one month before the end of the semester) to apply for an extension. Please note, however, that an extension is only possible from the winter to the summer semester! For the extension, we need the written consent of your class professor. Please also clarify the extension with KOOR.
Please inform the International Office and the Student Office immediately of any changes that occur during your stay abroad, such as an extension or termination of your stay.
In addition to the study report for the EU or KOOR-Erasmus Services, we ask you to submit an experience report to the AdBK Munich. With your personal experience report, you will significantly help the next generation of Erasmus students in their decision for a university and in the preparation of their stay abroad. You can find the experience reports of former Erasmus students in the library.
Your report should cover the following points: Preparation, arrival, everyday university life, personal experiences and evaluation. The report should be about 1-2 A4 pages long in order to get an impression of the host university and the host country. Useful tips for future students with similar plans are explicitly desired.
Detailed information on how to write your report can be found here.
Please send us the report (preferably as a Word Document) by email to
