Techniques of Survival

Claudia Aradau and Metahaven (Daniel van der Velden)

Claudia Aradau is Reader in International Politics in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Her research has developed a critical political analysis of security practices. Among her publications are Rethinking trafficking in women: Politics out of security (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and Politics of catastrophe: Genealogies of the unknown, co-authored with Rens van Munster (Routledge, 2011). More recently, Aradau has co-edited the book Critical Security Methods: New Frameworks for Analysis (with Jef Huysmans, Andrew Neal and Nadine Voelkner, Routledge, 2014) and a special issue of Security Dialogue on the subject »Questioning Security Devices: Performativity, Resistance, Politics« (with Anthony Amicelle and Julien Jeandesboz, Sage, 2015). Her current work pursues a critical exploration of security and non-knowledge, with a particular focus on anticipation, devices and (big) data. Aradau is a member of the editorial collective of Radical Philosophy and associate editor of the journal Security Dialogue.
